A simple way to get flavorful onions
Big Poppa loves “sautéing” onions in a foil pouch. It’s a quick and easy method that doesn’t require another pan. Seriously, the hardest part of this recipe is cutting the onions.
Use these onions anywhere you want to add more flavor: steaks, tacos, sandwiches, soups, pizzas… the sky’s the limit. Big Poppa likes using them on his Upside Down Tabasco Butter Burger.
Ingredients
- 2 sweet white onions, halved, cut into slices
- 1 tablespoon Tabasco Original Red
1/2-1 teaspoon Big Poppa’s Little Louie’s Garlic Seasoning w/Black Pepper
- 3 pats of salted butter
- 2 large sheets of heavy duty foil – foil grilling bags also work
Directions
- Preheat grill to 300F
- Slice onions into thin strips
- Lay foil out – double layer (will need to fold into a pouch)
- Place cut onions on top of the foil
- Season onions with Big Poppa Smokers Little Louie’s Garlic Seasoning w/Black Pepper
- Drizzle Tabasco Original Red over onions
- Add 3 pats of butter on top of onions
- Seal/fold foil into a pouch – make sure to seal all edges/corners so butter and moisture doesn’t leak out
- Place foil pouch on the grill at 300F for 20 min
- Remove foil pouch and carefully open to pour onions into a dish
- Use as a garnish on steaks, sandwiches, burgers, anything you’d put onions on – serve hot
